Another government outrage

Advertising, we see and hear it every day. Most of it we do not even pay attention to, it does not register except as background noise. I do not have a problem with advertising, except when our government is advertising for people to apply for a handout of your and mine hard earned dollars that they confiscate from our paychecks.

Food Stamps. The local radio stations here, and probably where you live as well, are playing advertisements paid for with our tax dollars telling people to apply for food stamps, which are paid for with, you guessed it, our tax dollars.. The ad claims almost 50% of eligible people do not apply. Note to government, SOME PEOPLE HAVE A WORK ETHIC AND PRIDE AND DO NOT WANT A HANDOUT. These people find that they are able to get by just fine with what they earn and do not need the force of government to give them what others have earned.

I understand that there are a few, very few, cases where people may need some temporary help. Before Government took over local charities and the community would help these people. This would be the case again if and when the government gets out of the income redistribution racket.

I am willing to bet most of these people on food stamps have at LEAST one of the following: a cell phone, cable TV, satellite TV, or in home internet access. They do not have a need for food stamps if they can afford any of the above mentioned items.

We, the American taxpayers, should be outraged that a government agency is paying for advertisements to give away our hard earned money. We should be contacting our representatives in Washington and demanding that this outrage be stopped. Should they be unwilling to make a stand against this we should then vote them out and put people in office that understand the role of government and will fight for what needs to be done. What will you do, sit by and do nothing, or take action to protect your freedoms and slow the growth of government?

They never have enough

Once again some of the fools that we elect to represent us in Washington are proposing a tax increase. This one is on that wicked weed, tobacco. Would you care to guess what this tax increase benefits, if you said for the CHILDREN you would be right, more to the point, healthcare for uninsured CHILDREN.

It is not enough that a pack of cigarettes already has a $.39 per pack federal tax, now it could be as high as $1.00 per pack.

Not only is this tax irresponsible, the stated reason, CHILDRENS healthcare, is not the responsibility of the government, but of the parents. If you can not afford medical care for your children, don't have any.

Another point to consider about this proposed theft of taxpayers earnings is what will the government use as a revenue source when the cost spiral out of control for this program and revenue does not meet projections. According to research smoking is declining in the U.S., if they raise taxes it is sure to lower the number of people smoking even farther. Once this tax source is found to be insufficient what do you think will happen, the insurance program for the children will go away, we all know better than that. The politicians will decide that they have no choice but to raise yet another tax and confiscate more of the taxpayers hard earned money to sustain another unneeded government program.

Washington is out of control and it is up to us, the citizens of the United States, to get back in control. The only way to do this is to elect fiscally conservative people to represent us in Washington. The size of government is growing ever faster and unless we the people do something about it and make ourselves heard we will sooner, rather than later, be living in a socialist country.

Just for the record, I do not smoke. I do have health insurance for my family  and do not live off of the taxpayers teat.

The greatest country

There once was a country that began as many have, with the populace revolting against the tyranny of the oppressive and unjust rulers. Nothing really special in that, it had happened many times before and happened many times after.

The results in this case, however, were unprecedented in the world.

The country  through the years grew in size and strength through the hard work of her people and their independent spirit. The economy grew and the people prospered as had no others before in history. These were not a lazy peoples, they valued their freedom and accepted the responsibility that came with it. The country became a magnet for people the world over, many who loved what it offered, others who feared it and wanted to end its' peoples way of life.

Throughout the years outside forces tried many different times, many different ways, to bring about an end to this great country, all without success.

However the enemy from within was quietly at work trying to bring an end to it all. They operated openly in most cases, although hiding their true objective. They worked to ever so slowly take away the freedoms that had made the country great. Private land ownership. Freedom of speech. Fair taxation. Self reliance of her peoples. They worked to make the people look once again to their government for answers to their smallest problems. Where before the individual was responsible for themselves, the government slowly encroached on and took away their freedoms and self reliance. Many of her people lost their love of freedom, it was to much work for them; why do something yourself when you can get by letting the government take care of it for you was their thinking.

This country still exist today, although it looks far different than her founders would have envisioned. How much longer this country exists as a free land is an unanswered question at this time.

The United States of America is a far different country today than it was even 100 years ago. An ever increasing percentage of her people do not want the responsibility that comes with being free. They are afraid to negotiate their own wage, jealous of those better off than themselves. Instead of learning skills to earn more, they want the government to take from those who have learned well, worked hard, and spent wisely. They want to be free to go to any club they choose, but not be free of  the government shackles of wage control, price control, or education. They do not want the responsibility of providing their own healthcare, let the government do it.

While it is not to late to change the dangerous path we find ourselves on, the job of doing it is becoming increasingly difficult. The freedom lovers of this great country must not sit quietly on the sidelines as observers, they must become engaged in the process of change.

I love the United States. I hope my grandchildren, when born, will still have a country we can all be proud of, one that is free.

The cowards

The cowards in Congress yesterday showed their true color, Yellow. 246 Congressmen voted not to support our troops by disapproving of the Presidents decision to send more troops to Iraq. These cowards should be run out of office at the very least.

Almost immediately Congressman John "The Murderer" Murtha said the next step was to restrict funding so the troops would not have the supplies, equipment, and training they needed. Should one U.S. service member be killed because of the funding restriction then I would think all members of the house who vote for such a bill should be brought up on accessory to murder charges, after all, if you do not give the troops needed supplies and training you are enabling the enemy by making his mission easier.

Below is the link to the role call for the vote. How did your Congressman vote? Check it out, the yea votes are the cowards.

Will we have any real choice?

The election season is starting to take shape as more candidates are putting their name in contention. Cut through all the empty talk and posturing and what will our choices really be. The front runners of both parties are fairly well known, as well as the second tier candidates and their views. What about a third party candidate, Libertarian, Green, Reform, or even an Independent?

The real deciding factor should not be party, but rather their beliefs and stances on the issues that really matter. Who is going to be honest and at least try to keep their campaign promises? What issues? How about national security; controlling and patrolling and enforcing our borders. A strong national defense, supporting and funding our military so they can finish the missions in Afghanistan and Iraq. Tax reform, pushing for passage of H.R. 25, allowing our economy to perform as it should. Social Security reform, who will have the guts to run on and really try to push needed reforms and privatization through.

These are the most important issues in the upcoming election, who will have the honesty to say what they really believe and then follow through.

The other problem of course is the voter. How many are going to vote for whomever promises them the most handouts.

Is a candidate who runs on these issues electable? I do not know although I would hope so. The people will decide Americas path, a scary thought when you look at some of the people who are allowed to vote.

Land of the free...but for how long?

America. Land of the free. How long it remains that way is the burning question.

We as Americans say we love our freedom but our actions, or lack thereof, say otherwise. We want the government to take care of our retirement and threaten to vote the politicians out of office who would dare to suggest that it is the individuals responsibility. We love the fact that the government mandates a false minimum wage instead of negotiating our own. We want our employer or better yet the government to take care of our healthcare for us. Some of our cities have even gone so far as to ban gun ownership. Heaven forbid that we should be responsible for teaching our children, let the government do it.

When are the freedom loving responsible Americans going to show up and say enough of this madness. Instead of an ever expanding government role in our lives we should demand less interference and control. For many Americans today it is as if they never left their parents house, they may have changed where they live but they want someone else to take responsibility for and to care for them.

The freedoms our parents and grandparents enjoyed are slowly but surely being encroached upon by the government, and a lot of people do not seem to mind at all.

If America is to remain the land of the free people will need to change the way we think of and what we expect from our government. Retirement, healthcare, wages, these are things the individual should be responsible for, not big brother. All to many people are ready to trade their individual freedom for a false sense of security. True security comes from being self reliant, and that comes from independence, not dependance.

$1.3 billion tax cut...untill you really look at it

The House is considering a $1.3 billion tax relief package in an attempt to reconcile the new minimum wage bill with the Senate. Great. Beside the fact that our government has no business setting ANY wage controls, let us look a little deeper into this bill.

The House figure of $1.3 billion is calculated over 10 years, the real number is closer to $4.5 billion over 5 years.
Most of the tax breaks in this bill are short term, and we all have seen how hard it is to get Congress to extend tax breaks that are about to expire. They begin to ask THE question; "How will we pay for these tax cuts". IDEA...spend less.

Our Senators and Congressmen need to wake up and start doing their jobs. Wage control is not a function of the Federal Government, it is better left to the free market. Tax policy should be one of their priorities, it is a legitimate part of their job. By increasing the minimum wage and offering tax breaks the government is going to slow the growth of our economy, hurt minimum wage / low wage earners by causing increased inflation and less job opportunity.

We the people should be contacting our Senators and Congressmen telling them to pass H.R. 25, The Fair Tax Act . The passage of this bill would do more to help low income earners than any other piece of legislation in front of them. The economy would grow, new jobs would flood to the U.S., tax revenue to the government would increase due to economic expansion, and the American people would be taxed only on what they chose to spend.

OH NO! The E.U. is upset

One thing up front, I am against the government providing any sort of subsidies or price supports for any sector of our economy.

That said, The E.U. is upset because the U.S. Government did not reduce agricultural subsidies as much as they would like. They say it is an unfair trading practice that benefits our farmers and our economy. I guess in the opinion of the E.U. their subsidies for their corporations do no such thing. Boeing has been fighting with Airbus for years on just such an unfair playing field, and winning most years. The E.U. should shut up and clean up their own yard first before they worry about the mess in ours.

Global warming and man

Some of  our elected politicians are at it again, introducing legislation to regulate the emission of so called greenhouse gases. Not only is would this put a high burden of compliance cost on the American consumer, it would also serve to slow or even reverse the growth of the U.S. economy for something that has not even been proven to be a cause of global warming.

Those of us old enough to remember recall the dire predictions of the 1970's about global cooling.  The politicians sprang into action to save the world, passing new laws regulating aerosol emissions among other things. One result of these new regulations was the lowering in North America and Europe of the amount of aerosols and dust emitted into the air reflecting some of the Suns energy back into space. Less energy reflected back into space would result in what, more of the Suns energy being absorbed by the surface thus causing a warming trend. Pretty basic stuff.

One of the things that contribute to our warming and cooling cycles is activity on the Sun, sometimes it burns hotter or cooler for extended periods. Another would be the orbit of Earth around the Sun, it is not a perfect circle nor is it at a constant angle.

The earth has gone through periods of global warming and global cooling since the beginning of time. Other planets have done the same. Mars is currently going through a warming period, is man to blame for that? I really doubt our Mars rovers are to blame, much more likely is the activity of the Sun.

Most of the Earth has been warming during the 20th century, about 0.6 degrees celsius, with the notable exception of the Antarctic. The average temperature there has fallen by 0.7 degrees celsius per decade. Were man really the cause of global warming why would this be happening?

Of much more concern to global warming or cooling should be things that are out of our control, such as major volcanic eruptions. These have happened throughout history and ice core samples have shown the global cooling effect they can have for decades after the event.

The politicians are catering once again to the pseudoscience environmentalist crowd without thinking about the real cause of global warming and the role man has played. By trying to enact legislation to reduce the amount of CO2 by 2% per year they are putting an unneeded burden on industry and thus the American consumer with no proven benefit resulting from such a reduction.

Please raise my taxes

An open call to the new congress; Please raise my taxes.

I have much more money than I need and there are others less fortunate than myself who could use a handout. My employer is also earning much more than is needed to sustain operations as evidenced by the stock dividend they pay every quarter, raise their taxes too.

We should all be praising the new plan to pay Social Security benefits to the millions of Mexicans who are here working illegally. We should reward people for committing crimes and breaking our laws. I also think it is a great idea that they only need to have worked for 18 months while a citizen has to work for ten years to recieve benefits.

We should all be really thankful that the government wants to take over our healthcare for us. I just do not understand how our parents and grandparents took care of themselves without help from the government. We all know how much better things are when the government gets involved.

We should also be determined to increase our dependence on forgein oil. We need to ban drilling in ANWAR and offshore as well. This is only fair to other countries that we should have to depend on them and buy their oil.
An added benefit for the U.S. is our environment will remain much more pristine, no oil spills in the Artic or along our coasts.

I guess what i am saying is we need a larger more caring government. Let's say something along the lines of a communist state. I know the Soviets tried it, the Chinese tried it, and the North Koreans tried it, they just did not
do it the right way. Surely the Government of the United States could do it all better.

The United States is on this path now. When citizens refuse to be informed and then to get involved and take action this is what happens. Growth of government is out of control. The reach of government into our  daily lives is ever increasing. Most of the politicians of our country are drunk with the elixer of power and they are intent on keeping it at all costs, regardless of wether or not it is in the best interest of our country.

What are you trying to do about it? Do you care what becomes of the United States or are you willing to sit back and do nothing and slowly but surely loose your freedoms?

Healthcare for all

Free healthcare for all, that is what we need in the United States. We need to get this done ASAP so that no one in this country has to go one day longer without affordable healthcare. This should also include the right of every American to free medicine, no one should have to make the choice between food and medicine. We must do this now, for the children.
This sounds very similar to what I have been hearing a lot of lately, mostly from our elected or hope to be elected politicians. A new government program to ensure equality for all. I think most of us realize how well run most of the other government programs are, just look at some of them; FEMA, (remember that little storm called Katrina), Social Security (what kind of ROI have they produced), the prescription drug benefit (by how much did they under estimate the cost), and the list goes on and on.
No matter what the politicians promise as far as nationalized healthcare it will almost surely be either wrong, underestimated, over promised, or an outright lie.
I lived in Germany as a civilian in from 1986 to 1992, I saw the effects and cost of socialized medicine. Health insurance was mandatory for every employee, but it was far from free. The cost to me was 9.5% of my gross pay, my employer matched that. That is 19% of my gross pay, all money I could have better invested. Doctor visits were cheap, when you could get an appointment. The total cost was high.
The best way to fix the problems with healthcare in this country is to get the government to keep out of it. Affordable health insurance? The day the government gives the same tax breaks to private citizens for health insurance they buy individually as companies get when they provide it is the day the free market forces will start to work their magic. Health insurance premiums will fall as competition takes over and if you are paying for something yourself you are much less likely to abuse it by seeing a doctor for every sniffle.
The United States were founded on the principles of personal freedom and personal responsibility, why  not trust the people to make their own choices and be responsible for themselves. Do we want to live as a free people or do we really want to hand over more and more of our lives to government control?

BIG BAD OIL

We keep hearing about record oil company profits, so called windfall profits. The mainstream media and most of our politicians would like nothing better than to punish the oil companies for doing nothing more than filling a need at fair market prices.
Part of their reported profits are inventory profits, supplies bought at a lower cost sold during an up market. If I have a gallon of milk bought at $2.00 and it will cost me $3.00 to replace it I am not going to sell it for my usual $2.50, I will sell it for $3.75. My profit soared from $.50 to $1.75 on paper, untill I have to replace it, just like what happened to the oil companies. When I have to replace it my profit margin returns to what it was before, even though my $.75 profit is greater.
Now the Democrats are planning to hit BIG OIL with windfall profit taxes in disguise. To be sure that is not what you will see it called in most of the media but that is in fact what they are going to try to do.
They want to "roll back" tax breaks for the oil companies to fund research into renewable and alternative energy.
They want to try to collect "back royalties" from Gulf oil and gas leases because the government made a mistake in the original contracts.
They are considering trying to pass a new law against price gouging, never mind that despite all of the investigations into price gouging not one case has been found.
They are going to try to eliminate some tax breaks for refinery investment. Maybe it is just me but I thought we needed more refining capacity in the U.S.
One of the most appalling however is a move to raise tax on oil company inventories. A move that would cause oil companies to drastically reduce their inventories and to cause the price we pay to become highly volitale.
Economics 101: The consumer pays all taxes in America period. That would be you and I, not BIG OIL, BIG RETAIL, or any other business, it is the consumer. Any new tax that a company has to "pay" gets passed on to guess who...you and I, the consumer.
I wonder if any of the politicians will try to pass subsidies for the oil companies when their profits take a dip because they are selling more expensive inventory at a lower cost. I do not think I will hold my breath for that day.

The Freedom Culture

We as Americans love our freedom, at least that is what we say. When you look a little deeper though most Americans only pay lip service to the idea of freedom.
We want to be free to go to the club when we want. We want to be free to live where we want. We want to be free to say what we want. We want to be free to drive the kind of car, go shopping, eat, live with, and do what ever we want. What most of us do not want however is to be responsible for ourselves.
Most Americans are afraid of true freedom and the personal responsibility that comes with being truly free. We do not want to be responsible for our own healthcare, our government should regulate it and make our employers do that for us. We do not want to be responsible for our own retirement, that is what Social Security is for. We do not want to be responsible for earning a good living for ourselves and family, that is what minimum wage laws and unions should do for us.
To be truly free you must take personal responsibility for your present and future. As an American it is your responsibility to save and invest for your own retirement. Let me opt out of Social Security, forfeit all I have paid in  for the last 27 years and begin investing on my own, and I would. What about you? What about wages, do you need the government to set your pay or a union to negotiate a wage for you? Freedom is knowing what you are worth and earning it. Commissioned salespeople are great examples of this, they earn exactly what they are worth every day, do you?
To enjoy freedom we need less government regulation and control and a lot more personal responsibility. For America to continue to be great we need more people who value true freedom and will work for it, not just the lip service so many in todays culture pay to it.
One more thought, if you value your freedom, support our men and women in the military, and show them your support and your thanks.
